Sweden license information and FAQ

We are pleased to inform you that we have new versions of our desktop software and apps, in preparation for a launch of a locally licensed offering in Sweden. All players who reside in Sweden will need to migrate to the new versions of our desktop software and apps, which offer the same great features you currently enjoy.

Migrating your account is straightforward and if you have any questions you should find the answers below:

The migration to the new platform will start in late December, 2018.

Simply log in to your existing Stars Account then follow the on-screen prompts to migrate and move your account.

iOS users will need to visit our websites – PokerStars, PokerStars Casino, BetStars or Full Tilt – and follow these quick steps:

  1. Log in to your Stars Account via your chosen website
  2. Upon login, you will be presented with a migration guide automatically
  3. Click the green button when prompted and your Stars Account will be migrated to the new Swedish platform
  4. Follow the instructions on the next screen to jump into the action. Use your existing Stars Account login details when prompted

Yes, the move is mandatory for all Stars Account holders residing in Sweden. If you are not residing in Sweden and have been asked to move your account, please contact Support with your current address details.

No. If you are a resident of Sweden and have a Stars Account, you must move your account.

The whole process should only take a few minutes. You simply need to log in to your existing Stars Account and then follow the prompts to migrate.

Your Stars ID and password won’t change.

Upon migration, all balances of your account currencies will be consolidated to USD. Any existing StarsCoin will be credited as real money in your account. These will be immediately available after the move is completed.

Unfortunately, Stars Rewards will not be initially available to users in Sweden. Please open all available Chests before migrating - failure to do so will stop the process and could limit your access to our desktop software and apps. Any existing StarsCoin will be credited as real money in your account.

Once your account is opened, you are required to verify your account to allow you to play real money games. There are two ways to verify your account:

  1. By BankID

When signing up for a real money account you will be asked to sign in to your BankID and enter your personal details. If successful, your account verification will be complete.

OR

  1. By Sending Copies of your ID and proof of address documents

If you are not registered for BankID or you are unable to pass the BankID verification process, you can attempt manual verification. You must first complete the player registration form when prompted and then follow the onscreen instructions. Please send us a copy of a valid government-issued photo ID containing your Personnummer and proof of your address in Sweden.

You will still be able to access the same great games and features you currently enjoy across all our products. You will also continue to play against the same players; the player pool will not change.

You will have the ability to deposit, and withdraw in Swedish Krona (SEK), and may optionally keep money in US Dollars (USD) on your account.

It remains the responsibility of the player to adhere to the laws and regulations of Sweden. Since each person’s situation will be unique, it is impossible for us to advise individuals on such matters. For further information, we recommend you consult with your lawyer or a certified accountant.

No. Once you have migrated to the Swedish platform you will no longer be permitted to use Stars Account funds to buy into Live Events. Online funds can only be used to play online.

Please Note: prize money payouts back to your Stars Account from live poker events are also not permitted.

Yes, absolutely. You will not be segregated or moved away from the global player pool you currently play with.

This is not necessarily the case. Please note that the legislation across the world varies, and that local legislation may limit your ability to access our products while abroad.

No. To comply with local regulations, players from Sweden are not permitted to send or receive real money transfers.

There are a number of new responsible gaming features available:

  • Deposit limit options will go from weekly only to daily/weekly/monthly. These limits are now mandatory as per Swedish regulations. All existing limits will be reset to zero with the migration. You can set your limits again once the migration goes through.
  • Session time limits have been introduced.
  • Players will have the ability to blacklist themselves from all operators nationally.
  • Players will be asked to complete a self-assessment survey from time to time.

Yes, you can download the PokerStars.SE client and enjoy all the new features and options in the new version! Simply download the desktop software or app and log in using your existing Stars Account details.

As per the Swedish regulations, Swedish players are only entitled to have an account on the new .SE licence. Swedish accounts on .ES will be closed and account holders will be asked to withdraw their funds.

No. This does not affect any of the rules governing our tables and games. Because you continue to be able to play in the same, global player pool, as a courtesy to other players, we must ask that only English is used at the tables (unless other languages are specifically listed as approved at the table/tournament).
